‘Death’s Game,’ a South Korean web series starring Seo In-guk and Park So-dam, is set to premiere soon. Adapted from a 2019 webtoon by Lee Won-sik and Ggulchan serialized on Naver, the show unfolds the narrative of an individual grappling with a fresh existence entwined with the concept of mortality. Its release is slated for December 15, 2023, exclusively on TVING, with weekly episodes airing every Friday.

Centered on the webtoon’s premise, Choi Yi-Jae (portrayed by Seo In-Guk) grows up in impoverished circumstances but possesses a bright and compassionate demeanor. Struggling for seven years to secure meaningful employment, he finds himself consumed by desperation and despondency. Alienated from his former girlfriend, he resolves to end his life through suicide. However, his demise doesn’t mark the end; instead, he confronts Death herself (depicted by Park So-Dam) at the threshold of Hell’s gate. Condemned to endure death twelve more times through different bodies, he faces this retribution as a means to evade damnation and secure survival.”

In August, TVING unveiled a teaser for the forthcoming K-drama series, offering a sneak peek into the highly awaited live-action adaptation. The recent teaser introduces Seo In-guk encountering Park So-dam for the initial time, teasing the diverse life trajectories he will navigate. Additionally, the clip solidifies the premiere date of Death’s Game, slated for December 15.
Death’s Game: Determined to overcome this grim fate, he strives to survive each ordeal. The roles of the 12 lives are portrayed by star actors, adding depth to the storyline. The new teaser also confirmed that Death’s Game will also feature 10 other cast members: Kim Ji-hoon, Super Junior’s Choi Siwon, Sung Hoon, Kim Kang-hoon, Jang Seung-jo, Lee Jae-wook, Lee Do-hyun, Go Yoon-jung, Kim Jae-wook, and Oh Jung-se.
Especially remarkable is Lee Do-hyun’s participation in Death’s Game, possibly marking his final project before his mandatory military service enlistment in South Korea, set for August. Earlier this year, he enthralled audiences in the highly acclaimed JTBC K-drama, The Good Bad Mother, and contributed to Netflix’s The Glory Part Two. Choi Yi-jae has been struck with ill after as he’s unable to find a job and his ex-girlfriend wants nothing to do with him anymore. To make matters worse, he lost all his money in a Bitcoin scam. He decides to die by suicide, but the mere act of ending his life angers death. In return, she decides he must experience death over and over again.
He must go through 13 lives. Each time he wakes up, he wakes up as a different person on the cusp of death. If Yi-jae can find a way to survive, he can live out the rest of his life as that person.
